In an archived video, a 6-year-old June Allen appears alongside her deceased father, James, who tragically passed away from a brain tumor shortly after the recording was made. Fast forward twelve years, and June’s mother, Grace, embarks on a week-long journey to Cartagena, Colombia, accompanied by her boyfriend, Kevin. Left behind, an 18-year-old June is entrusted to the care of Heather, Grace’s friend and a divorce lawyer. A tinge of jealousy colors Heather’s attitude due to Grace’s relationship with Kevin.

A week elapses, and June anticipates the return of her mother and Kevin at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). However, their anticipated arrival never materializes. A subsequent inquiry at their hotel reveals an unsettling truth: their luggage never left the hotel premises. With the FBI’s attempts in Colombia yielding no progress, June resolves to take matters into her own hands.She recruits the assistance of Javier, a Colombian gig worker, who aids her for a small fee.

Piecing together clues, June manages to crack Kevin’s Gmail password. Jumping to September 2022, the film’s official title was revealed as “Missing,” with a slated release date in 2023. Subsequently, in November 2022, Sev Ohanian, a producer and co-story writer, shared on Reddit that “Missing” would not only continue the narrative after the events of “Searching” but also function as an epilogue to “Run,” thus interweaving the stories of both films.
