In the week ending March 9, the US Department of Labor (DOL) reported 209,000 initial jobless claims, according to its weekly data released on Thursday.

This figure was slightly lower than the previous week’s revised number of 210,000 (originally reported as 217,000) and surpassed market expectations, which had anticipated 218,000.

Additional details from the report indicated that the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2%, while the 4-week moving average stood at 208,000, reflecting a decrease of 500 from the revised average of the previous week.

The publication also noted that the advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in the week ending March 2 was 1,811,000. This represented an increase of 17,000 from the revised level of the previous week.
