U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team Announces Roster for Crucial Friendlies Against Iraq and Morocco as Paris 2024 Preparation Heats Up

Chicago, November 13, 2023 – U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team head coach Marko Mitrović has unveiled a formidable squad of 20 players for their training camp in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain, as part of rigorous preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The team is set to face Iraq on November 18 and Morocco on November 21 at Pinatar Arena.

This marks the second training camp for the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team since their return to the Games, focusing on developing the nation’s top young talent for the 2024 Olympics. The roster showcases a blend of experience and rising stars, with eight players having senior U.S. Men’s National Team appearances.

Eighteen clubs, including 11 from Major League Soccer, are represented on the roster. Notably, midfielder Gianluca Busio, with 13 senior international appearances, leads the experienced players. The team’s successful October camp saw contributions from 11 players in victories against Mexico and Japan.

The U.S. Men’s Olympic Team will test its mettle against Iraq and Morocco, two formidable opponents with distinctive Olympic aspirations. Iraq, having qualified for the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, is striving for Olympic qualification, while Morocco, fresh off winning the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, is gearing up for its first Olympics since 2012.

With players born in 2001 to 2005, including debutant Agustin Anello, the team is a promising mix of youth and experience. The roster also features performers from clubs that excelled in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs and abroad.

As anticipation builds for Paris 2024, the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team aims to continue its impressive journey, having secured their Olympic berth with a stellar performance at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship in Honduras.
