With 144 competitors vying for a slice of the $25 million purse at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Scheffler faces stiff competition. However, his task is somewhat eased by the absence of world No. 3 Jon Rahm, as LIV Golf players are not participating in the PGA Tour’s flagship event.

Nevertheless, the shadow of the Saudi-backed venture looms large over the tournament’s 50th edition. Xander Schauffele, world No. 6, took a shot at PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, expressing skepticism about the ongoing reconciliation talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. While Monahan remains optimistic about the discussions, Schauffele believes there is a long road ahead to earn the trust of the players.

For fans eager to catch The Players Championship action, Golf Channel will broadcast the opening two rounds from 1 p.m. ET, with NBC taking over weekend coverage starting at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday and 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Additionally, PGA Tour Live, offering coverage of featured holes and groups, is exclusively available to ESPN+ subscribers.

In the UK, Sky Sports Golf will provide coverage of the first two rounds starting at 11:30 a.m. GMT, followed by weekend action beginning at 2 p.m. GMT.

As the reigning champion, Scottie Scheffler enters the tournament in top form, fresh off a dominant victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His stellar performance secured his sixth PGA Tour title, marking his first win since last year’s triumph at TPC Sawgrass.

Scottie Scheffler leads a field featuring players from 23 different countries, including several making their debut at the tournament. Among the newcomers is Nick Dunlap, who turned professional shortly after winning The American Express in January.

Despite notable absentees like Tiger Woods, Rahm, and others who have joined LIV Golf, The Players Championship promises intense competition among the world’s best players. With Scheffler aiming to make history as the first-ever back-to-back winner, golf enthusiasts can expect thrilling action on the iconic Stadium Course.

As Scheffler and his fellow competitors vie for supremacy, The Players Championship remains a pinnacle event in professional golf, showcasing the sport’s elite talents and offering a captivating spectacle for fans worldwide.
