Recall Alert: Undeclared Allergens in Walmart’s Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews

Cashew nuts sold at Walmart stores across more than two dozen states are under recall due to the presence of undeclared allergens, as stated in an announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall pertains to certain 8.25-ounce containers of Great Value honey roasted nuts, which may contain coconut and milk not properly listed on the packaging. The manufacturer, John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc., issued the recall and allergy alert, cautioning consumers against consuming nuts from containers bearing a “best by” date of July 8, 2025, and a UPC of 078742133348, citing concerns about allergens.

The underlying issue arose from a discrepancy in the labeling process, with a limited number of plastic cans containing coconut cashews mistakenly receiving labels intended for honey roasted cashews during manufacturing, according to the company’s announcement.

Despite the recall, there have been no reported adverse reactions thus far. Nevertheless, the FDA allergy alert emphasized the potential risks for individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to coconut or milk, highlighting the possibility of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if the product is consumed from the affected batch.

Consumers may have obtained the impacted Great Value honey roasted Cashew nuts through Walmart’s online platform. Additionally, these nut containers were distributed to select Cashew nuts Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and West Virginia, according to the notice.

Cashew nuts Walmart customers who possess the affected product are encouraged to return it to the store for a full refund, as outlined in the FDA announcement.

In response to the incident, Walmart reiterated its commitment to customer health and safety on its website, emphasizing adherence to safety protocols and standards upheld by its health and wellness, product safety, and food safety professionals.
