North Jersey Traffic Updates – MetLife Stadium Events, Devils in Newark, and Lincoln Tunnel Work

With the Giants playing at home today,North Jersey Traffic congestion is expected to start building early around the Meadowlands.

Additionally, as apple- and pumpkin-picking season kicks off, the West Milford Police Department is implementing measures to help ease weekend traffic, particularly on Greenwood Lake and Warwick turnpikes throughout October. To avoid delays, consider planning extra time for your journey or exploring alternate routes.

North Jersey Traffic

For sports enthusiasts, preseason hockey is currently underway at the Prudential Center, featuring games between the Devils and the Islanders tonight, as well as the Rangers on Wednesday. Music lovers can also catch concerts at the Rock this weekend, including performances by Carín León, Amor En Vivo El Concierto, and Maluma.

Soccer fans won’t want to miss the match between New York and Toronto at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Saturday.

Traffic Updates and Roadwork Notices for North Jersey

  • Motorists in North Jersey Traffic should be aware of ongoing roadwork and potential lane closures, including those around major roadways and the Lincoln Tunnel.

  • On October 2, the New York North Jersey Traffic Giants will face the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium. The stadium lots open at 3:15 p.m., so expect traffic to build in the early afternoon on routes leading to the Meadowlands. The game is scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m.
  • MetLife Stadium will also host the Ludwig Messer Classic High School Band Competition on October 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, and the Giants Foundation 5K and Kids Run on October 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.
  • Keep in mind that horse racing events at Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford on Fridays and Saturdays may result in additional congestion in the area.
  • Route 46 eastbound near Grand Avenue in Ridgefield Park will experience intermittent lane closures for construction on October 2 and October 3, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Utility work will close the right lane on Route 17 in both directions between Paterson Plank Road in East Rutherford and Franklin Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights. This closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 7.
  • Construction on Route 17 northbound near Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus will require the closure of one lane from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October 22.
  • Please note that the Fair Lawn Avenue bridge remains closed for bridge replacement between Second Street in Fair Lawn and Route 20 in Paterson through November 30.

Traffic Updates and Events in Essex County

  • The NHL preseason continues at the Prudential Center, where the New Jersey Devils will play the New York Islanders on October 2 at 7 p.m. and then face the New York Rangers on October 4 at 7 p.m.
  • Enjoy upcoming concerts at the Prudential Center, including Carín León’s Colmillo De Leche tour on October 6 at 8 p.m., Amor En Vivo El Concierto (featuring Chayanne, Camilo, Ricardo Montaner, Prince Royce, Gloria Trevi, Ilegales, and Joaquina) on October 7 at 8 p.m., and Maluma’s Don Juan Tour on October 8 at 7 p.m.
  • For roadwork updates, please be aware that two lanes will be closed for construction and drainage improvements on Route 21 in both directions, between Exit 7 in Belleville and Exit 12 in Passaic. These closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 7.
  • Additionally, North Jersey Traffic the ramp from Clifton Avenue to I-280 will remain closed for bridge work until January 31. Please plan your routes accordingly.

Traffic Updates in Various New Jersey Counties

Hudson County:

  • Soccer matches at Red Bull Arena in Harrison include New York vs. Toronto on October 7 at 7:30 p.m.
  • North Jersey Traffic First Street, between Garden and Washington streets, will be closed for the Hoboken Business Alliance’s First Street Sundays. This closure will occur each week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through October 22.
  • The right lane will be closed for roadwork on Truck Route 1&9 northbound between Route 440 and Charlotte Circle in Jersey City. This closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. from October 3 through October 9.
  • The eastbound Lincoln Tunnel Center Tube will be closed for repairs from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 5. The eastbound South Tube will be closed for repairs from 11 p.m. on October 5 to 5 a.m. on October 6.

Morris County:

  • The right lane will be closed for water main work on Route 23 southbound near Kinnelon Road in Butler. This closure will occur from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through October 7.

Passaic County:

  • Each weekend through October 29, the traffic light at the intersection of Warwick Turnpike and Lakeshore Drive South will be steady green and steady red for North Jersey Traffic on Lakeshore Drive South and Utopia Deli parking lot. An officer will be assigned to the intersection from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist with traffic flow to and from apple- and pumpkin-picking locations and events. Please be aware of potential heavy North Jersey Traffic in the area and plan extra time or alternate routes for travel.
  • At least one lane will be closed for roadwork on I-80 westbound between exit 57 in Paterson and exit 47A in Parsippany. This closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through October 5.
  • Two lanes will be closed for construction and drainage improvements on Route 21 in both directions, between Exit 7 in Belleville and Exit 12 in Passaic. This closure will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 7.
  • The Fair Lawn Avenue bridge will remain closed between Second Street in Fair Lawn and Route 20 in Paterson for bridge replacement through November 30.
  • Construction will continue to keep the Route 46 westbound ramp to Valley Road in Clifton closed until February 4.

Sussex County:

  • The left lane will be closed for gas main North Jersey Traffic work on Route 206 northbound near Waterloo Road in Byram. This closure will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 6.
